Alicante's economy is growing at low rates and needs 3,000 public workers

The Socioeconomic Situation Report of the province of Alicante from Ineca corresponding to the third quarter of 2019 reflects the slowdown of the provincial economy. In this sense, the tourism sector, real estate and exports are the main productive areas most affected by this slowdown.

In addition, there is a significant increase in the import of products belonging to the province's traditional industries such as footwear. "If we combine Telegram Number these variables with the stagnation in the creation of new companies and the increase in the dissolution of companies, the panorama allows us to speak of stagnation in this penultimate quarter of the year ," the institute points out.

This trend has already been detected in the latest reports on the socioeconomic situation, which is why they advocate reflecting on what type of economy to develop in the province. The president of Ineca, Rafael Ballester , has stressed that emerging sectors linked to technology "seem to be the key to the resurgence of traditional sectors . "

Along the same lines, it believes it is necessary to strengthen the structure of the provincial economy and society, beginning to develop urgent actions aimed at creating constant and quality employment. Added to the main problem that the province has, they also highlight an infrastructure network that speeds up the mobility of citizens and goods, sufficient budget financing; the modernization of companies gaining size through mergers or cooperation.

Likewise, the president of Ineca has considered climate change as one of the economic opportunities that the province must take advantage of. "Solar radiation is a fantastic competitive tool that can lead us to reduce costs and improve our products, giving it that essential added value to compete in the global world ," he noted.

They need 3,000 more public workers

On the other hand, regarding the analysis of public resources in social matters , the director of Studies, Francisco Llopis , has indicated that the last decade reflects that the public provision of human resources in social matters in Alicante "has always been below its weight population» . "This situation occurs in a wide variety of situations such as family doctors, pediatricians, nurses, nursing home employees or justice personnel ," he explained.

In this regard, Llopis explained that the worst allocation of these human resources in Alicante had its maximum in 2012 , where the divergence would exceed 4,400 people. "Although this figure has been adjusted, it still represents a high value, since considering the population weight, 3,000 more public workers would currently be needed than those already existing ," he stated.

There are 1,300 workers missing in Residences

The most notable imbalances are linked to the staff of nursing homes, followed by those in education. According to the microreport carried out by Ineca, 205 public workers would be missing in Health; in nursing homes, 1,300 ; in Education, 1,100; in Justice, 35; and in the Security Forces and Corps there would be a lack of 400 public employees, based on population criteria.

Likewise, Llopis has maintained that these shortcomings have a direct effect on the well-being of Alicante residents in these specific matters. Furthermore, he added that it is aggravated by the loss of global wealth generated by these workers, since in many cases they are qualified personnel, so "in addition to not facilitating the employability of the residents themselves in the province, they are left to enter salaries that represent a significant amount .

"We would currently be talking about about 72 million euros not received in salaries, without taking into account the indirect effect that these cause in the environment in which these workers are established ," he estimated.
